Gibson Tom Doyle Time Machine Darkburst

Time Machine #90. I own four Doyle Coils Time Machines now, which seems excessive considering they’ve only built just over 100 of these in their history.  Have you played one?  No?

OK, I’m no Les Paul expert and I won’t play one on the internet, but I will say that when I have friends over that are Les Paul fans, there is only one Les Paul I own that ranks higher than any Time Machine…and honestly I think that assessment is based simply on rarity.  I don’t particularly find the tone or playability that is much different between the grail and a Time Machine, and I’m sure more comfortable leaving a Time Machine out as a player.

I spec’d this one out with the very old men in FL who do these guitars.  I wanted a dark burst and said, “Think Joe Perry,” although I’m not an Aerosmith fan.  Max sent me a couple of choices, and I landed on this one for his team to start ripping apart and rebuilding.  This choice did not have an over-the-top, blues lawyer flame because I didn’t want that.  I think it took about 15 weeks before the guitar was back here, and she felt like your favorite old pair of jeans right out of the case (which they also age).
